Adult Ministry

Welcome to Portage United Church of Christ. The love of God through Jesus Christ defines who we are and makes PUCC a terrific place to be! The Spirit here is one of joy; joy in worship, joy in service, joy in love and honor of our brothers and sisters both within this church family and within our community.

We welcome all people into full life in the body of Christ and rejoice in the wonderful gifts and talents each unique individual possesses. They say that a picture can speak a thousand words, and it is clear to us as we look through this website that each photo speaks to the many ways that God has blessed Portage United Church in ministry, together with one another. The church is not a building - it is people, led by the powerful promptings of the Holy Spirit.

This website is just one rung to the ladder of history that PUCC continues to climb through its journey of faith. Together we have been called for such a time as this to be disciples of light, of joy and of love in this generation - what a calling!!!

The deacons assist and advise the pastoral staff in the spiritual and liturgical life of the church. They assist with the weekly and seasonal worship service and respond to the needs of our members and guests.

At present there are 12 active deacons and more than 70 individuals who have served as a deacon.  Each one has a unique set of talents to bring to the service of the Lord.  Areas of responsibility include five service teams: Worship Service / Participants, Membership, Congregational Care / Hospitality, Life Presence / Prayer and Healing, and Teaching.

Adult Christian Education (ACE)

Adult Christian Education (ACE) encourages the enhanced development of personal and spiritual growth beyond Sunday morning worship.  All are welcome to participate in Bible study classes, ChristCare groups, Sacred Conversations and book studies, which represent a few of the ACE program opportunities to grow in our faith.  Content is often challenging, leading to a greater appreciation of the teachings of Christ and deeper understanding of God’s purpose in our lives.
